The Public Transport of Cluj-Napoca and the Path to Climate Neutrality

As part of the “Blueprint for Net-Zero Apartment Block Neighborhoods” project, the Cluj-Napoca Municipality is actively working to reduce emissions and improve the quality of life in urban areas. A key focus of this project is transforming public transportation in the Mănăștur neighbourhood, aligning with the city’s goal of achieving sustainability.

Key Activities of the TUCN Transport Team

The Municipality of Cluj-Napoca, in partnership with the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (TUCN), is dedicated to creating a cleaner, more efficient public transport system. These efforts aim to make daily commutes healthier, faster, and more environmentally friendly for all citizens. Some of the major activities underway include:

• A comprehensive study to measure current public transport emissions, focusing on reducing pollution. By simulating the impact of replacing diesel buses with electric and hydrogen-powered ones, the city is preparing for a greener future.
• Studies examining emissions in Mănăștur. Electric buses will soon replace diesel buses in the neighborhood, making it one of the first areas to benefit from sustainable transportation.
• Comparative analysis between current diesel buses with electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles. These evaluations ensure that the shift to cleaner transportation is based on solid data, ensuring both environmental and practical benefits.
• Real-life implementation of sustainable public transport with measurable results. The project’s results will be measurable, demonstrating clear benefits to the community.
