The Public Transport of Cluj-Napoca and the Path to Climate Neutrality

As part of the “Blueprint for Net-Zero Apartment Block Neighborhoods” project, the Cluj-Napoca Municipality is actively working to reduce emissions and improve the quality of life in urban areas. A key focus of this project is transforming public transportation in the Mănăștur neighbourhood, aligning with the city’s goal of achieving sustainability.

Key Activities of the TUCN Transport Team

The Municipality of Cluj-Napoca, in partnership with the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (TUCN), is dedicated to creating a cleaner, more efficient public transport system. These efforts aim to make daily commutes healthier, faster, and more environmentally friendly for all citizens. Some of the major activities underway include:

The implementation phase in Mănăștur is already underway, with several steps completed.

Measured emissions: Noise, CO2, Ozone, Formaldehyde, PM1.0, PM2.5, PM10. Also measuring Temperature, Humidity, Pressure, VOC. All measurements started 06.02.2024.

The grant is funded by Horizon 2020, the EU framework programme for research and innovation preceding the current Horizon Europe programme. The funding will complement the support provided already by the City Advisors and the Consortium partners of NetZeroCities. The Pilot Cities Programme is a crucial part of accomplishing the objectives of the EU 100 Cities Mission, which aims for these cities to accelerate climate-neutrality by 2030.
